Sustainability Victoria to hold free Refrigeration Efficiency masterclasses

According to Sustainability Victoria, there is thought to be around 65,000 walk-in cool rooms or cold stores in Victoria. Combined they could be using around 1.22GWh of energy per annum, and because of their age, technology levels or level of maintenance, could be running 25 per cent or more less efficiently than what is possible.

In their proposed masterclasses that will run from August to October, Sustainability Victoria aims to educate businesses with cold storage facilities as to new efficiency best practices so they have the knowledge and confidence to manage their refrigeration systems more effectively. The course will be run by Minus 40’s Michael Bellstedt, who has decades of experience in refrigeration and energy efficiency and conservation.

Topics to be covered.

The masterclass’ will cover a range of topics and specifics relating to walk-in cool rooms, such as:

  • efficient and reliable refrigeration equipment
  • choice of refrigerants
  • working with refrigeration contractors
  • accessing financing for energy efficiency upgrades

Attendees will be introduced to Sustainability Victoria’s Finance Service, which assists businesses in investing in upgrades that will improve the efficiency and environmental impact of their operations.

Should you attend?

The course is designed to engage and educate an audience with varying levels of knowledge of refrigeration and varying scales of cool room operation. This means it should be similarly suitable and insightful for small scale operations such as cafes and large operators such as cold storage companies.
